Survey previous results April 23, 2006.
We have had pretty fair participation in this "MyHaiti" Survey.
We will continue to look at incoming results, so if you know others
working in Haiti, please pass on our link.
1) How often do you use the World Wide Web to find information and services to
aid you in your work in Haiti? The majority of
survey participants access the WWW daily to help them with their
work in Haiti. Almost all participants answered Daily, Every
Couple of Days or Weekly.
2) Which choices best describe your affiliation with an agency or
mission?
The
majority of survey participants are agency directors. Also
represented are long-term missionaries, a couple fund raisers and
donors.
3)
If you work with an agency, is your agency...
Humanitarian agencies and Christian missions participated equally.
One family ministry and an agency of "another kind" also
participated.
4)
Which categories of INFORMATION would you consider to be most
valuable in helping you to make day-to-day decisions about your work
in Haiti IF such information was available to you?
First rank: Detailed information about other
agencies; second, contact information for fund raising sources;
third, listings of available people and services; fourth, news,
texts, photos and maps. All categories of services mentioned
in the survey received good attention.
5)
Which categories of SERVICES would you consider to be most valuable
in helping you to make decisions about your work in Haiti IF such
information was available to you? Survey
respondents chose in this order: firstly, tech courses, computer
help & freeware; also language services including translations and
translation software. Secondly, on-line advertising, blogging,
comments and journals. Video promo help was also in the second
group. Finally, "help wanted" received a few ticks.
6) If money was not a factor, which of the following services would be most
helpful to you now? Most popular was application for
grants and other available funding, intra-agency surplus / needs
posting, and listing volunteers ready to help. A significant
portion of respondents need websites, email services and video
promotional materials. Several organizations need a "runner"
to check up on their work or deliver messages in Haiti.
UPDATE: Two
organizations have requested help in putting up websites. This
we can do first-come, first-served. Several also asked for
help in distributing their newsletters through email. We can
do this for a nominal charge or on a donation basis right now.
7) What other information or services might be useful to you if made accessible
on a website?
Respondents had several excellent suggestions of web-based services
needed. including a FocusHaiti weekly newsletter to summarize the
latest news and services available on the site. More than one
suggested that we could help coordinate health programs with health
needs, both geographically and with resources and volunteers.
One organization asked that research be done on the best and least
expensive places to buy resources - I assume this is both in the US
and Haiti. Several need website and logo generation / creation
services. Again, the idea of having a "runner" or two on the
island. Someone would like English language worship
opportunities listed. Finally, a few mentioned that we forgot
to include educational curriculum in our survey and "Haitian Law
Educational Seminars." This last request we have been looking
into and hope to have something on this by the next update.
8) If such information and services as we described in the statements above were
available on one website, how often do you suppose you might access it to aid
you in your work in Haiti? The majority answered
"every couple of days" or "weekly."
9) What types of information might you be
able to provide for a cooperative website? Members
and friends are willing to provide! Top choice - 1) photo
arrays, 2) journals and articles, 3) surplus items to trade or sell;
finally, field information, troubleshooting, tracts and recordings.
10) If you answered 'Other
information / services,' what? We discovered a
mission volunteer who eventually wants to dedicate full time to
Haiti and a digital photographer who is looking for an opportunity
to go.
